Life In The Big Apple

1/29/2008 11:07:00 PM You know... after waiting so long to hopefully get a job at Starbucks... I screwed up my interview... Maybe its cause I'm too honest or I'm too nervous I dunno... all I know is that it didn't go well... So I can really guess that I won't be getting that job... sigh... And I'm quitting Burger King soon... Going to have to look for another job soon...

Question : Why do you want to work for Starbucks?

Me : Erm... (Talks about some stuff about coffee, Vincent, and Starbucks in Malaysia)

Question : How much do you expect to be paid?

Me : err.... anything would do... they're only paying me $7.15 at Burger King... so something higher would be nice...

Question : What kind of challenges and opportunities do you expect, working for Starbucks?

Me : (at this point I was so confused and a lil panicked I just blurted something stupid I guess)

1/04/2008 01:46:00 AM Well 2007 gone by pretty quickly to me. Lets recap shall we?

January 2007 - March 2007
Lets see... I basically hanged out with my friends, trying to make the best of the time I had left with them before I left for New York. This includes the many visits to Victoria Institution, helping Treacher with the house decorations for Sports Day this year (which ultimately was a failure. Stupid form 5s). The various gatherings we had like bbqs, karaoke sessions, bowling, movies, lunch, dinner, pasar malam and just hanging out. I'll always remember the times we had at the mamak stalls, cyber cafes, Secret Recipe and all the other times we had.

April 2007 - August 2007
Finally said farewell to my friends and migrated back to my birthplace, New York City. Almost cried on the plane listening to Josh Groban's You Are Loved. Reunited with my mom and Chester. Begun adapting to life in the Big Apple. The different accents, the different languages, the different people, the different food and places, weather and most of all the absence of my friends. Started studying about Japanese Katanas. Had trouble applying for college because of the lack of information and foreign transcripts.

September 2007 - December 2007
Started work at Burger King. Made new friends... Finally able to get some spending money. Wish I could go back to Malaysia soon... had a severe case of homesickness when one of my customers looked so much like Yi Peng and I had an emotional breakdown at work. Bought my Iaito and bokkens with the money I got from work. Found a store in Flushing mall that sells Malaysian foodstuff ( 100 Plus!!!! YAY!!!!)

December 31, 2007
Spent the last day of this year that was full of joy, sorrow and frustration by hanging out with my 2 cousins, Alvin and Victor by walking around Flushing before going to meet up with Edward, Daniel, Brian, Ben and Jenny for dinner.
Got home just in time to watch the countdown at Times Square. Goodbye 2007, hello 2008.


Well during the past month plus, I made frequent visits to Starbucks Coffee on Main St. before going to work. Lets say it reminds me of Vincent haha... Anyway... I've been there so often (almost everyday) that some of them knows that I work at Burger King and had asked me if I wanted to apply for a job there. I did. So this will be my 3rd time applying to work there but this time I've been referred by one of the employees themselves. Which means I'll have a better chance at getting the job this time.

Oh and I've finally registered for classes at the Queensborough Community College. Unfortunately there was one class that I really needed but it was full. Drawing 1. How am I going to study computer arts if I don't even have that???

Anyway, this is my timetable:

1200 - 1450 Introduction to Jazz

Wednesday
1000 - 1115 Introduction to the Survey of Art

1000 - 1140 New Media Writing

Saturday
1000 - 1410 Two Dimentional Design

Well that means that I'll have Friday and Sunday off... I'm going to have to set a permanent work schedual as well to fit this. It takes around 40 minutes to get from the Queensborough Community College to Main St. Flushing. So I'll probably have to set the time to start work and hour after my classes end.

Well I hope everything goes well for me... I have a bad feeling for some reason... That I screwed up my subjects....
